People would like to believe that snuff films are an urban legend; that nothing so horrible could possibly exist. But having some idea of the capacity for man's inhumanity to his fellow man, I have no doubt that they probably do exist, especially in a culture like that of the U.S., where we practically celebrate violence.

A "real" snuff film would depict the graphic sexual torture, degradation and ultimately the murder of the subject of the film. If your brother really did possess one, he's obligated to turn it over to the police, since by purchasing or even borrowing it, that practically makes him an accessory to murder, which carries considerable jail time, depending on the state where you live.

More than likely, though, what he probably has is one of those videos that's part of a new and disturbing trend in porn - where it's actually a "simulated" snuff film, that fakes what a real one might show you. Even so, you need to let your parents know he has it. At the very least, trash like that could give him a very twisted view of what sex is, let alone how sexual partners should be treated.

A snuff film is a film where someone is kidnapped, tortured and murdered for real for the viewer's pleasure. There have been many rumours about snuff films over the years, many people think they are urban myths, others think there are snuff films out there but that they're fakes and are performed by actors.

You could argue that the beheading videos from Iraq on the internet of Ken Bigley and the other hostages are snuff films.

Snuff movies are where an actor in the film is tortured and murdered on film.

There are cases where people have thought movies depicted real murders however upon further investigation, it was found to be good camera trickery etc. For example, the director of 'Cannibal Holocaust' was taken to court because they thought it was a snuff movie and he had to prove that the murders had been faked.

I can believe there are real ones out there though especially nowadays with the internet, people have a real passion for violence. For example, the videos of Sadam Hussain being hung, videos on youtube of kids being beaten up etc.

However, I don't think you're brother really has one, I think he has probably just found out about them and is winding you up. However, it is also possible that he thinks he has one, and it's a fake.

Tell him that if it is real, it's illegal and unless he wants to get in trouble with the police, he should hand it in.

You can find more information about snuff films at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snuff_films

There are also many films about snuff movies including 8mm (Nicolas Cage) and The Brave (Johnny Depp)

Snuff films are illegal. They show real live people being abused (often young women) and then murdered.

Trust me you don't want to watch one and nor should you attempt to.

Often Snuff movies are faked. But if there is any chance that the one your brother has is real he should really give it to the police and tell them where he got it.

If your brother has possession of a snuff film (the real thing) then he's in possession of illegal material.
It is a pornographic movie where the person (usually the woman) is sexually abused, degraded and then killed - for real - all while being video taped. If this is the type of viewing your brother enjoys, I'd say you had better watch your back - he's one sicko dude.

I'm 16, and I can pretty much watch whatever I want. I'm over Spongebob and Hannah Montana, but there are so many other good shows out there. If I were you, I would just keep in mind that you'll be out of the house soon and will watch whatever you want then.
