There is nothing wrong with it, except that our consumerist society doesn't exactly appreciate people thinking - plus, it makes others uncomfortable, when they would rather hear you say "OMG! He did what? That is soooo . . . (insert favorite derogatory adjective here.)"
So don't let them tell you that - just find smarter friends.
While it isn't possible to think too much, on the other hand, it is possible to overthink an issue or question. There does come a moment where one has done all the constructive reasoning one can do, and any more will be just pointless mental jerking, and the time has come to make a decision and act.
May the force be with you.

There is nothing wrong with thinking things through, unless is stops you from coming to a conclusion, or a decision, because there could be other things to consider.
A quick example would be if someone asked you if you would like a cuppa. You debate on the benefits of coffee verses tea, the taste and texture of different ways of serving coffees - latte, cuppachino, espresso - or the different kinds of teas - black verses green, or maybe a nice herbal blend?
But by this time you've come to a decision, the kettle's gone cold, and your friend is shuffling you out the door, because she's got this really urgent appointment, she'd just forgotten about til now. So you leave, minus a cuppa, all because you over thought such a simple question. The easier answer would have been to ask yourself what would I like now?

I think it is possible to think too much! Example would be me trying to help my child w/ simple homework. I get stumped on a simple problem because I am thinking way further than what is obviously right in front of me! Kind of weird I know!
Also, if its a situation that has stressed you out, and you keep going over it and over it and only stress yourself out even more. That is thinking too much! Sometimes you just have to let things go.
Or thinking too much can lead to exaggeration of the facts. You mind can get the best of you and before you know it you start imagining things that didn't even happen.

There are all types of thinking too much. Such as over thinking a simple question, therefore getting it wrong because you are over analyzing it. There is thinking about to many things at once (the mind can only think about 2 things at once, try three and you'll short out) There is worrying about things you can't change, thinking about them all the time etc etc etc. - or maybe the people that tell you that are just ignorant idiots. - is that an oxymoron, I'll have to think about that and get back to you.

1) It's possible
2) It means your thought flies over the object of your lesson and you relate this object with other -useless for your class- topics
3) It's bad for teachers. You don't concentrate the right way on what you are asked to do
4) It's bad at school and may be bad at your job for the reason I told you
5) You just want to surpass the data teachers give you. Teachers think it's partly wrong because you mix your school subjects with your character and opinions. School sometimes wants robot-students -no opinion, no character, just do everything you are told. Your reactions twds school lessons are sometimes also really wrong for the reason in answer 4

Considering that we are using only 10 % of our brain it is impossible to think too much. Usually, when someone tells you that you think too much it refers to the fact that you are thinking in the opposite direction than you should.

Thinking too much means when you are not really speaking and lost in your own thoughts. It is not really considered a good habit in a social environment.
