Normal, or straight-chain. All 8 x C atoms in a straight chain, with no branching.

Simple 'n' here stands for normal, or that the c atom chain in this octane is straight....
eg:

C--C--C--C--C--C--C--C
IS N OCTANE(with h atoms obviously)

IT CAN BE ISOMERIZED into iso-octane and neo-octane(in which the chain is not staright n the iupac name is differednt eg: 2 methyl heptane )
