He comes across more left than right, but he was pretty critical of the Clinton Administration, too. I think he could run with a Republican or Democrat.

Jon Stewart is definitely intelligent (has a degree in Psychology, I don't remember which level though I do believe it is a bachelor's). And you don't really need to know that because it is easy to see he is intelligent based on how he conducts interviews (especially with politicians that come on his show).

But in the end it is easy to see he wouldn't be taking it seriously, and I doubt I would vote for any candidate with him as a running mate. I like him, I like his politics, and I like how he gets things across. But a politician he is not and never could be. But if I were running for president I would definitely want Stewart's support (he has big influence among the voters, especially the younger ones who will be voting for some time).

I would be more inclined if Stephen Colbert was the running mate. While he also is a comedian, I have seen him in more serious situations and I am more willing to believe that he would take the situation with its proper gravitas. Basically a Jon Stewart but with more respect.

While all good political humorists go for both sides, he could not possibly run as a republican - you don't seem to be paying attention: he's very liberal.

Are you also one of those who doesn't get that Colbert is a vicious satirist, eviscerating the right wing?

While i think John is fabulously smart, funny and adorable, I don't think he's a political leader.

Maybe he'd be a good senator.

Reading these other comments -sheesh people - he's a new jersey boy, educated at William and Mary in VA, working in NYC - he's not a hollywood hack. Second, he writes the show, he's not being told what to say by others.
Third, ever watch Colbert's routine in front of Bush? Wicked, worthy of Aesop.

No. What makes him qualified to run the most powerful nation that has ever existed? Has he ever managed anything?

I would be less likely to vote for someone that was stupid enough to pick Stewart as their running mate.

What are his credentials? Why would anybody in their right mind pick a Hollywood hack like this for a running mate.

A can of diet coke would be a better running mate.
