I think it's a good thing that she doesn't just hand him a big chunk of her own money. Having elites buy power is very distasteful to me and it should be illegal.
Part of the democratic process is getting others involved. And I also support her right to endorse anyone she wants.

The real answer is very simple. She has given him money. But there are limits to how much an individual or corporation can donate.
Oprah can only give so many dollars to Obama. But, if she uses her reach as a TV personality, she can ask millions of other people to donate to him as well. That gives Obama much more money than if Oprah just gave him the maximum amount she is allowed to.

Look S&K F's answer... it is correct.
There are laws that say she can only give like $250,000 of her own money to his campaign...
Any more than that would be considered "fixing" the election.
Also, just so you know - Obama does not get to "Keep" the money either... candidates MUST spend it on their campaign.
Of course, a little bit of celebrity status can sweeten the pot eventually... but right now - eyes are all on him to be frugal.
As far as Oprah building things in other countries and American's saying "what about us, don't you care about America?"
Her answer to those people on Larry King was beautiful...
She basicly said that America has become rather selfish and she sees the effects that has on the rest of the world... she's trying to please God, not "squeeky wheel" Americans.

Oprah appears to do more for people in other countries (Like building a school in Africa, and a medical center in England.). We all know that the money will go towards the campain to Elect Senator Obama for President, but what if he doesn't win? (No biggie!),he will be $3,000,000 richer. (Note) There are so many things we need here in the USA. You would think that she could give some back to the people who made her who she is today.

She likes to give hr money away, and has probably already donated at the first opportunity. No need to be so snide!
Legally, there's a rather low limit on the amount any one person may donate. Helping him garner financial support from fundraising would be her next best way to help.

Hey,
First, if she donated the money, it might look like the money wasnt earned, where as other candidates might be running around and working hard to get the money obama might froma check from oprah.
secondly, this alludes to your thoughts, isnt it better for oprah to have others give obama themoney than lose her own money. i mean, just b/c ur rich doesnt mean your stupid right, money is money and its not granted.

Probably those unconstitutional campaign contribution laws.
The Dems have fought for years to reduce the maximum sum an Individual can donate to restrict contributions from rich Republicans.
Every once in a while the laws bite a rich Democrat in the butt.

Campaign contribution laws. I think Oprah would do better to help the poor of Chicago, but that would make entirely too much sense. She won't do anything that isn't intended to draw maximum attention to Oprah.

Yup! With that will come the millions of lemmings who will cave in and do something just because Oprah says so. Pathetic!

She probably already has. However she has star power and she figures if she tells everyone that she is supporting Obama then it might pull in more voting power.
