If it wasn't the real Wm. Shakespeare, the actual author wanted to remain anonymous. Many authors have several pen names. I don't think it matter much who wrote them as the fact that they are there for people to enjoy

I think there is enough evidence to be skeptical about it.

However, it actually doesn't matter who wrote them. When you learn about a Shakespearean play, you never focus on the writer. It's always about the play. The man himself is inconsequential to his work.

It might even be reasonable to think that this deemphasis on the individual may have led to the ambiguous authenticity about the plays.
