Why was Pesci's character killed and dumped in a unmarked grave towards the end of the movie? Was it because of fiddling around with DeNiros characters wife?

It was because of all the attention his actions were bringing to the bosses.

that and the bosses found out about his side jobs and didn't want anymore heat on them
