My maiden name was always mispronounced or misspelled. It used to annoy me. It didn't get off the hook though with getting married...my name is now hyphnated and most times (professionally) people still call me by my maiden name. I don't correct people any more, unless it's in writting on an official document.

I would say 90 % of people mispronounce my last name the first time. Doesn't bother me at all.

Yeah all the time. But the name I'll have when I get married will be mispronounced even more. It doesn't bother me at all, I'm so used to it.

Yes, and I cannot for the life of me understand why...my last name has only five letters, and is a common word in the English language, only has a slightly different spelling than the common word (it differs by one letter!) God help me if I actually do marry my boyfriend in the future.....his last name I had difficulty pronouncing myself...lol

About 99% of people do (and it can be pronounced 5 different ways - they always manage to not say any of them first time meeting me). I won't tell you my last name (it's German though and a rare last name), but one time in 1st grade on the intercom they called for me and said FISH as my last name!

They constantly say my last name wrong. It's to the point where I don't bother correcting them or if they get it right, I give them praise!!~~~

YES!! It annoys me so much. But then, sometimes I'm too shy to correct them. So they end up pronouncing it wrong forever.

I always have to correct people. Bugs the hell out of me when they ask if I'm related to Fred and Ethel.
