Quite simply, reduce the country's massive dependency on coal. Australia has lots of untapped natural resources, particularly solar and wave power. However, there are so many coal-related jobs that politicians can't pursue these greener energy options without risking their popularity and thus jobs.
Fund a program to train coal workers in the construction and operations of these renewable energy plants, and build them.
