::sigh:: three years ago, i was devastated that i didn't get any offers to go to boarding school... but then i made friends with wonderful people in high school, have a great best friend and i was grateful i didn't go to boarding school.... but this year, i have this big exam that is quite important and could get me in boarding school...

so, now, i'm confused... do i want to go to a boarding school? is it really better there? coz i heard the older people always bully the new ones.. but people said that the teachers there are better than the school near my house... many people scored straight A's there... also, there's the fact three siblings before me went there... and the teachers are also really good at predicting the upcoming exam questions... (which is why i think the students perform so well)

i live in malaysia where academics is really important for a bright future.. but, it's not as bad as in singapore i heard...

i hope u all can help me with my dilemma here.

I only know about British schools but I'll have a go at answering this.

I wouldn't say that day school or boarding school was better - it depends exactly what you want to get out of your education.

At a boarding school, you often have quite a regulated life - they try to fill up most of your time. There's likely to be more scheduled sports and more of a strict timetable which often helps people to focus more on their studies. Because you live with your classmates you often become closer friends since you know them better and know a wider range of people. I've known people who've gone to boarding school and loved it, particularly because it gives them more independence from their family.

On the other hand, day school gives you more freedom to go out and choose what you want to be doing. You live with your family which some people like and you're not forced into close quarters with people you may not like. Academically, some day schools are as good or better than boarding schools.

Wherever you go it's as much a question of being willing to put in the hours and work for your grades. My school has a history of good academic standards but at the same time we got something like 5 hours of homework a night (that's a fairly extreme example to be honest....). As for guessing what will come up on an exam, it's not so hard. Look at papers from previous years. Often, the same sorts of questions come up every year in maths or science. In say English, the same question is unlikely to come up two years in a row but look over any model answers the exam board provides and learn how they like you to answer.

Good luck
