I'm doing my last year at school now, and I want to do Film and Media studies for my university subject choice. Problem is, I can't decide on whether to stay in the UK or go to the US to study Film studies. Which is better? Can anyone suggest any good universities for that subject?

I'm an international student in the US, and I go to the UK every summer and winter. Honestly if you want to do film go to California or New York in the US. Pace University has this class (inside the actor's studio) that get celebrities such as Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolia for students to interview.

The UK has a better nightlife and sense of fashion, if you're into partying and shopping ;) Also if you're younger than 21, the UK is much better.

Hi, I already graduated from university and luckily got to study in England during that time so if you want my opinion I would say US. When I first graduated high school I was looking into film as well. I found USC really seems to be the place to be if you want to do that (that is the University of Southern California). There are plenty of good film schools throughout our country, some better than others and offering more detailed courses, etc however the one thing you'll experience at USC that you probably won't as much at other schools is the connections you'll make in the industry there, i.e. the professors will know big named ppl as well as who you may meet on your own. USC gets a lot of sponsorship and help from the Hollywood community so I've been told. If I were you I'd order a prospectus (its free) from them from the Admissions office on their website and peruse their website (esp film dept) to see if they offer courses you like.

One thing I will warn you about though. I know depending on the major (course) you choose sometimes university can take longer in the states than in the UK. Especially true of Grad School (here its usually 2 years over UK 1 year). Of course the other very big film school I *believe* not sure is NYU (New York University). Now both of these schools are very wealthy schools but coming from the UK pound (it's at twice the dollar right now) it should come out still more expensive than you would pay in the UK but way cheaper for you than it is for us. However check with the Financial Aid department you should qualify for some sort of scholarship since you are coming from the UK our biggest allie/closest related country. Some gov funds will be off limits to you but there are usually a few scholarships that are set up for British students coming to the US and some for just foreign students in general. Anytime you work with the Financial Aid dept of a school they always use the fafsa form to determine how much aid you should get so they'll probably direct you there eventually. I've provided the link below.

I ended up staying in my city (St Louis) and going to Saint Louis University a large univ and studying International Studies/Comm. Now my biggest problem is getting out of STL and finding a job! :/ Ironically, I still ended up in television production for my first job! Good Luck! if you have any further questions let me know, I'll do my best to help.

in the UK film isn't a big thing, you might struggle to find a film class, media shouldn't be hard though. i hear NYU is good for that sort of thing if you want to go to the US, but it is very expensive for overseas unis.

well us defiantly make a large number of great films compared to over here and they have a better film industry to this country. if you could study in the us i believe you stand a better chance of making it to the big time. good luck.

If you want to make films with great actors using integrity, intelligence, humour and sophistication, stay here. If you like jokes about sex and farting and you enjoy blowing things up, go to the US. And stay there.

go with a college and bypass to their Admissions website to request information. once you're coming to the US, I recommend you attempt to get into an Ivy League college, they are costly, yet they are properly sought after international.
