I sure hope so because I say it alot...I also tell my two boys sweet dreams..I know kinda weird for a guy..lol . Oh another great question. I think it does help as you go to bed knowing that someone cares for you and loves you and gives you that secure comfort feeling that we all enjoyed when we were young...I don't know just my opinion..lol...goodnight!

Saying it means that you WISH he/she will have a good night, that doesn't necessarily mean they will. It depends... It doesn't really matter because simply saying the word goodnight won't magically make your night any better than it was before. =D

Not directly but it does leave one with the feeling that you care enough to have said a pleasant departing word which could leave a warm feeling which could lead to a better night's sleep than if you hadn't said it.
