lol, useless nations, good one, but the reason they exist is because United we stand, divided we fall. This world would be much better off with them as our friends, than our enemies in some respect........I mean the UK still thinks they own us, they think we stole their colonies, but just think of all the turmoil there is now, and then think of how much more turmoil we would be in without them. They may not seem to help at all, but it's because they don't always agree with Bush who represents our Country as the Leader of it, so they think we all think like he does, and the people the United Nations feel the same way about their leaders. There has always been war since the beginning of time, which started in the Middle East. We have to stick together to avoid more turmoil than the world already has, other than that, they are useless.

Wonderful question...i have asked myself this trillions of times...maybe its like the security checks at the airport..or the sign on cigarrette packs that say smoking may cause cancer
both useless...despite the checks..crimes happen and i am not even going to talk about the other....The UN is just there so some people can have jobs..that help no one but their own personal selves.

From a military perspective you are absolutely correct.
The Security council and UN peace keepers do more harm than good.
In other issues they are useful such as humanitarian problems and environmental concerns. It is those things you do not hear about.
So I say strip the UN of all of its military capability and leave it in the hands of NATO and other regional powers.

I agree in its current form it's kind of a toothless beast. It needs to be revamped, reorganized and rethought.
There can be no better global player than a reformed UN to regulate the use of military power, ensure human rights protection, and strive for global justice.

Yes, it's frustrating that they have zero enforcement power. (with only one exeption that I can think of: the first gulf war)
But that's because the powerful nations, our own included, made sure that the UN could not force their hands.
And I'm given to understand that the UN does foster international cooperation in a number or ways that don't make headlines, but are helpful nonetheless.
Chances are the world is better off with them.

They are useless because the Americans have the UN administrators in their back pockets.
