Now that ultrasounds (and the technicians doing them) have become more advanced... who has recently (like in the last year or two) had an ultrasound at 12 weeks and been told the sonographer saw what looks to be girl (a clitoris). Anyone had this not be true??? I didn't even ask the sonographer for what he thought... he just said, "Well, do you want me to tell you what I think you'll have?"

i was told at 12 weeks that i would have a boy and i did. at that stage they really have to know what they are looking at. they are still basically the same but there is something there that for a boy turns into a penis and for a girl turns into a clitoris. so it is all about how it is pointing. if they mentioned it they were probably pretty sure they were right. but there is always a chance so go ahead and buy a few girls things but keep the receipts.

Well - it's possible to tell at 12.5 weeks but the chances that it's correct are questionable. There's NO way one could see a clitoris on a regular ultrasound. They would typically see three lines - if it's a girl or something that looks like a hamburger bun.

With my first pregnancy I had an ultrasound at 13 weeks and she told me she was 80% sure it was a boy. Sure enough...out popped a baby boy. I think they can probably tell earlier than when they say they can tell (normal 18-20 week ultrasound), but they want to be absolutely sure before letting you know. Congratulations.

I would think it was too early. I thought you can't see genitalia until you're 14 weeks along. I wouldn't start planning for a girl yet. I tried at 20 weeks and my daughter wouldn't show us anything (the tech said it was 50/50 that it was a girl - great help, right), and we had to wait until 29 weeks to find out she was a girl and it was really obvious then. Good luck!

I wouldn't start buying pink yet. Wait until your 18-20 week ultrasound...

way way way too early to tell. even at 20 weeks its can still be difficult and its not a clitoris you can see. that not how they distinguish between boy an girl in a scan.

There is no wat to be compeltely sure until the baby is born. I know this sounds silly but the doctors were 110% sure I was a boy until my mom popped me out, a girl. I had to wear blue the first few months of my life because she had already washed ALL of my baby clothes. But CONGRATULATIONS!! =)

I think you should wait until your pregnancy is at a more advanced stage to be absolutely sure.
