I have a cousin who is pregnant. She is due in January. Every since she found out she is pregnant she has been using that as an excuse for not doing things. She won't work because she claims that no one will hire her. She won't do anything because she gets hot and tired easier. The list goes on. Can she really be experiencing all of this or is it her way for getting out of stuff?

Some pregnancies are harder on some more than on others. that said It sounds like she has plans to take it easy for this 9 months. I have NEVER seen someone unable to work Just because they were pregnant.
UNLESS they had a special situation medically
If the doctor has not placed her on bed rest then she can work

Her hormones may be fluctuation and causing her to feel over heated and over tired well all pregnancies cause that
Is she taking her vitamins?
seeing her doctor?
If not she should go to get checked out Just to be sure there are not problems that she does not know about causing these issues.

One way to see if she is faking' offer to take her shopping and you are buying
If she is playing the poor pitiful me card then she will accept and run circles around you in the Mall.
if she is honest she will say she does not feel up to it

I worked right up to the week before giving birth with 2 of mine and went into labor at work with another. I walked often and stayed active.
Needless to say I had fairly easy births
The doctor will tell you if you do a lot of stretching and walking it will make the delivery easier in many cases.

I was unable to find a job once people found out I was pregnant as they didn´t want law suits on their hands if anything went wrong. Now I am too far along so noone will hire me cos it will only be for like 6 weeks so they say whats the point. As for getting tired and hot - not an excuse - its all true. every woman has different symptoms and takes to pregnancy different. Your cousin sounds like she´s going thru exactly the same stuff I am although Im now 7 months. I still do the washing and cleaning and cooking but nobody lets me do anything else. I sometimes feel frustrated cos they wont let me do simple stuff but I know they only have my and baby´s interests at heart. But please dont give her a hard time cos it aint easy being pregnant.

It is hard to find work while you are pregnant. I think that she should try though.

As far as hot and tired - I was EXHAUSTED my entire pregnancy. I never got the 2nd trimester burst of energy. Every time I sat down I fell asleep (unless I was driving), and I took about 5 naps a day. Everyone is different, so it is hard to say if it is an excuse or for real. As for being hot - I went all winter without a coat until the weather was in the 20's (F), thank goodness I did not have to be pregnant in summer !

Yes and maybe no. The fact that she's not working because she thinks no one will hire her is not sure, but she could be feeling tired and hot. Now, the fact that she is only about 5 mons pregnant, I'm not sure about how she's feeling, but different women react differently so you'll never know.....

i am 5 weeks pregnant and get hot flushes if i do too much she shouldnt use it as an excuse though. but she may be scared that if she does anything she might lose the baby which is most unlikely but she might think that. just go easy on her and ask her to do things every now and then she might be feeling sick? anyway good luckxxx

Its her way for getting out of stuff! Oh, and people probably won't hire her if she's pregnant and she shouldn't be lifting heavy things but otherthan that, she's pregnant not disabled or sick! If she starts being a pain in the butt, just say....your not disabled now get a move on!!

Is she happy about her future baby? If not maybe she is going through some depression about her situation. Put it this way, even if it is an excuse, she is doing it for some reason...whether her "symptoms" are real or not.

Pure laziness. No excuses. Unless she is in pain which she should go to the doctor for because its not normal to be in pain at that stage of pregnancy. Something could be wrong. But I would just blame it on pure laziness. What a wonderful mother.
