In my opinion, I think it's Rain Dogs by Tom Waits, i named the cover "The Mona Lisa of the album covers"; you just can't get enough of looking at it.

Not to deny the work of current artists, but album art had it's heyday in the era of the 33 LP record. They had big 12x12 canvases to work with and 12x 24 when there were gatefold albums. They did sleve liner art too. CD art and dvd art is much harder format. If you get a chance, check out the work of Roger Dean for the group Yes. I also like Emerson Lake and Palemer's Brain Salad Surgery by HR Giger and the work by the art group "hipgnosis" who did some work for Pink Floyd, sabbath, styx, and ELO. Who can forget Gerald Scarfe's Pink Floyd, the Wall. I like some of Kosh's work. He dominated Grammys in the 90's. Talking Heads (most of whom went to Americas leading art school, Rhode Island School of Design) commishioned artists like Raushenberg and Hockney. Who can forget the classic Beatles "Sargent Pepper's" collage?

London Calling by The Clash.

The photo of Paul Simonon smashing his bass guitar is immortal. Though it's kinda ironic that the words are like the words on Elvis's debut, since The Clash declared "No Elvis, Beatles or Rolling Stones".

Here's the picture:

The album itself was extremely good too.
