It troubles me greatly when entertainment figures gain this type of popularity and entry into the history and culture of a nation -- let alone a world.

That the few gestures of generosity that she performs gain so much attention, is a commentary about the human condition in general. Treating her in the media and in this fashion is create a reality where most people are uncaring and inconsiderate.

The world is filled with daily heros. Men and women of all ages who do far more than Oprah does, although with significantly less money.

She started a book club, for example, that affect the monetary outcome for an author and companies. Countless people teach children to read every day.
