I do. All this time it was "we're not leaving without maddie". now that they are suspects, they can't get out fast enough? They say they don't want to appear to be running, but that's what it looks like to me.

but it seems to me, that if i were accused of something I did not do, I'd want to stay and do whatever I could to prove my innocence. I wouldn't want to do anything that looks strange in any way.

Yes, I think it's odd. But then, this whole situation has been littered with inconsistencies.
First, the McCann's said that they weren't leaving Portugal without Madeleine. Granted, when they stated this, they probably didn't anticipate a) that the situation would drag on so long and b) that the tide of public opinion in the country would turn against them so viciously.
Only yesterday, it was widely reported that they would stay on in Portugal in order to 'clear their names' and fight their side. And now they are returning to the UK. Hmm.
I understand that the plans were already made for their return this weekend. I also understand that the rental period on their house ends this week. However, flights can be changed and I am sure there are other places to rent!
Maybe they are returning to the UK because they think that they will get more support here. The trouble is, I really don't think that they will. They are blinkered as I am sure the only emails and letters that are reaching them are those of support and not the ones that berate them for being neglectful in the first place. They are only listening to what they want to hear - and it doesn't help that they have an army of advisors around them who are pandering to their every whim and telling them that they have done nothing wrong.
I hope that they are met on the tarmac when their plane arrives by social services and/or the local police and requested to answer questions relating to the fact that they repeatedly left their children alone.
Regardless of whether they are responsible directly for Madeleine's disappearance, they facilitated her vanishing by leaving their children unattended. This needs to be addressed.

I thought that they are running too. They have stayed all this time in the resort area, off of good hearted peoples money, and now that they are suspects, they are want ing to leave.
I guess going back to England and facing child neglect charges and getting the other two taken away, is the lesser of staying and being accused of murder.
And hopefully someone will step in and take those twins away from those two so called parents. ( A donkey has better parenting skills than they do)

I don´t live in Britain but if the british police falsely accused me of something I´d want to get out of your country as fast as I could. For all those that said they would stay, talk is cheap until you are faced with it. Britain has made it´s fair share of mistakes recently. They covicted people who were later proved innocent.

That is because Portuguese police are hounding them. I actually feel sorry for them. When Kate came out of questioning and the public were jeering her- that was horrible.
Yes it is suspicious. Yes we have our doubts and theories but nothing has been proven yet. There is a continuing decrease in support for them over there.
Whatever happens in the future, their lives are wrecked.
I still don't know if they are guilty or not but I would leave back to England to the love and support of my family and friends.

they were due to leave anyway, and the lease on the house they rent runs out on tuesday! Perhaps they want to be on home turf as the police now think maddy is dead! Perhaps they need more legal help from england too!

Its because the world isnt handing them free money and laying down rose petals for them to walk on anymore!
The Cops are getting warmer and they know that its a lot easier to bribe a british lawyer to lie for them than a portugese one.
They would sooner serve time in britain because as middle class they would most likely serve it as house arrest!
and in portugal they would be in cells with a bloke called pabalo who ate his mothers arm while she was alive and pickled his younger brother infront of his stepmothers cousin!
In a nut shell they are bricking it! They want a life of luxury not a prison sentence. so lets run away!!!! GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT

It is strange. I thought they were now prime suspects. Will they be allowed to leave under that allegation?
