Easter. It's such a positive holiday. Jesus rises from the dead after having died for our sins. Spring is here, so there is new life. I always take off Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Monday so I can really enjoy it. I make a tradition during that time of visiting family graves, distant relatives, and different churches. It is also nice because Easter hasn't become nearly as commercialized as Christmas. I love it.

Halloween, without question.

Partially because it falls around my favourite time of year, when the weather is cool and pleasant, the trees are changing colour, the skies are deep deep blue, and there's a general sense of comfort and wellbeing.

Couple that with the harvest of foods, pumpkins, apple pies, lots of warm foods with nutmeg and cinnamon, warm cider and teas, people starting to burn wood for that aromatic, pungent smell that lingers in the air.

A great time of year.

Corn mazes and haunted houses, a tendency to watch silly scary movies... decorating the home and yard. All fun.

And I love that everyone can relax and act silly, but for a day. Dressing up and just having a good time. Going to parties, walking around outside, visiting neighbors and friends, having fun with the children who find everything a little frightening and a little magical. Playing pranks on one another.

And, at least for some, there's also the moment of solemnness to remember the dead who have left us over the year, and the general sense of a change of season and a dying before rebirth, in the end of crops and plants, shortening of the days... etc.

It's one day but I generally consider the holiday to include the days before and after as well, as so many celebrations occur right there at the end of October and beginning November. It all has a very sentimental, warm, family appeal for me. Lots of good memories, and always excitement about the next time it comes around.

Christmas. I love the music, the decorations, the shop displays in Manhattan and London, the brisk winter air, giving gifts, the smell of evergreen, the joyfulness, and the contentment that comes with knowing the year is almost done.

I'm also a sucker for holiday programs, particularly Charley Brown, the Grinch, and Rudolf [crappy claymation and all].
