my application form which was supposed to reach IIM-Kozhikode went missing and speed-post people could not track it down. I lost my opportunity to write CAT and they have ruined a year, and a big dream. I want to take legal action. Please advice.

This is a clear case of deficiency of service that is covered under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 "Deficiency" means any fault, imperfection, shortcoming or inadequacy in the quality, nature and manner of performance which is required to be maintained by or under any law for the time being in force or has been undertaken to be performed by a person in pursuance of a contract or otherwise in relation to any service. The postal department has failed to provide you proper services by not delivering your postal article in time rather misplacing it during its transaction that made you miss your CAT examination & get chance to the admission in the IIM-Kozhikode as you state here in your facts. You can move the Consumer forum against the Indian Postal Department for this deficiency for the compensation of any amount less then 20 lacs & will definitely will be compensated for the loss you suffered.
