Late 20's couple relocating to Northern California. Just looking for neat places to live and to have some fun for a while. Don't prefer to live on the coast or too close to the heat of the desert. Thanks everyone!

Since you are speaking of between SF and Sacremento, and are looking to escape the coastal fog, I would recommend being East of the Sonoma Mts, or in the Napa-Sonoma-Fairfield areas. Know this though; the fog is a moderator, and areas that have fog have less variance in temps than do the inland locations. In other words, without the fog, inland places are hotter in summer and colder in winter.

you are going to be hard pressed to find anywhere in the northern california area that does not have fog at some point in the year. Sacramento has a lot of the tule/pea soup type fog in the winter, but is hotter than blazes in the summer. SF is foggy and cool in the summer.

First choice for me would be the east bay area. Maybe Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill/Concord area. Only a little bit of fog in the winter, but nothing horrible. Nice temps year round. 40s to 50s in the Winter and maybe 80s - 90s in the summer. though it can be hotter or colder than that depending on the year. This is probably the most expensive area.

Napa is similar to walnut creek, but is certainly foggier year round and a bit cooler than the east bay. Summers are usually in the 70s to 80s and winter 40s to 50s. It rains a lot in the north bay. Except for wineries, there's not a whole lot to do in Napa. But you are only a 45 min ferry ride or car ride to SF. And Sac is maybe an hour.

Vacaville is also a nice area. Kind of sort of like Napa weather wise, but a bit warmer in the summer. There isn't a whole lot to do there in terms of excitment and fun, but you are about halfway between SF & Sac. So best of both worlds.

I live in San Bruno. It's about twenty minutes away from San Francisco. There's rarely any fog, except on very very chilly days, and the summers are just right. Usually it starts warming up in August-September, then the season rolls in normally. The winters are tolerable, never too cold. Spring brings a lot of rain, but that's to be expected.

There's tons of new developments in San Bruno, including the remodeling of the shopping mall, new homes and apartments, and developmental improvements throughout the city. I've lived here since I was a in grade school and have always enjoyed. It's close to the city, and San Bruno is adjacent to San Francisco International Airport (about 5 minutes away from my home!).

Overall I feel it's a great location. There are great school, great recreation, and the community is safe and involved.

Good luck, I hope you find the right place for you! =]

There is alot of foreclosures ALL over california. If you go to foreclosure websites your can see the details of the houses. I live in California, about 1 1/2 away from Los Angeles. No matter where you live here there is always gonna be very hot weather in the summer, and fog everywhere in the fall/winter. I dont live close to the desert at all and its been in the 100's most of the summer. So be very prepared for the wheather.
Hope this was of help you!

There is fog everywhere in N. Calif. in the winter, some times zero visibility. Only Western sections of Southern Ca. has less or no fog. Lived in both N & S Ca. for 60 yrs. Good luck.

S.F. to Sacramento, what is that? Roughly 100 miles.. Lot's of places between the two. If you don't get fog in the summer, you'll get Tule Fog in the winter months near the Sacramento area. S.F. is nice.. Maybe you might want to reconsider and think about Santa Rosa. North of S.F. about 45 minutes to an hr. depending on traffic on 101.

Pretty much anywhere in the East Bay. San Ramon, Danville, Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, Dublin-- they're all really nice, safe cities. And all are close to Bart stations, so getting into SF would be pretty easy. Stay away from Richmond, though.
