If so, were they what you expected or better/worse? Did their behaviour affect your feelings for the band?

I've met a few from local bands - Sky Cries Mary in particular was thrilling to meet. Very sweet group of people!
Also got to chat with the very flattering Coolie Ranx before a Pilfers show.

I got close to meeting Trent Reznor back in 95' but some things just weren't meant to be... Probably for the better.

That's great - Damned Fan got to meet Captain Sensible. It doesn't get any better than that!

lovnrckets - yeah, I'd heard that about Trent... The friend of mine that was attempting to get us backstage had hung out with them during a tour with Marilyn Manson and Jim Rose CS a few years prior but she became pretty close with Chris Vrenna.

MachPen - I realize when someone's poking fun at me ; ) but no worries. I'm not from Canada however I'm pretty close to it so maybe that affected me while I typed out this question.

I have never been one to seek out the stars nor the musicians. It's hard to explain but I guess I would feel sort of stupid just saying the same things that they are so accustomed to hearing. They don't necessarily need my adulation, but it's here if they want it bad enough.

Sky Cries Mary?? LOL, I remember those guys. Another band I haven't thought about since 1994! I really liked the song Every Iceburg Is Afire. They were very different, kinda hazy, kinda spacey. I think I might still own that CD and Moonbathing.

Don't feel bad about not meeting Trent. He is renown for being a jerk to his fans.

I did meet Chris Carabba the founder and lead singer of Dashboard Confessional (one of my favorite bands) and he was just as I suspected, a truly nice guy. I won a meeting at a radio station and there were about 30 of us and we were all kinda quiet at first. He went around and said hi to each person and signed pictures and chatted and made jokes to loosen us up. Anyway, I think I like him even better now, knowing that he is friendly and down to earth.
I took my daughter to the Warped tour and we met Boys Like Girls and they were really sweet guys (especially John, the drummer) and they seemed almost awestruck themselves when I told them that their set had been great and that my daughter and all her friends were big fans. Because they were so gracious and humble, I told them that I hoped they would have all the success in the world, and I truly meant it.
Great question by the way!

Wow - Ms. Buzzkill, I never noticed you were Canadian (British)? I just noticed the difference in the way we spell "behavior" :) Yay - I learned something new about one of my contacts. Well, as for your question, I've had the pleasure of interviewing a few artists through my profession over the years (entertainment writer) to include Frank Black, Isaac Brock, Pat Benetar, the late James Brown, Al Jourgensen, Jade Puget, and, really, a lot of others to name, but from bands I didn't really care much for. The real asshole was Phil Anselmo - he almost made me cry during an interview when he was touring with Super Joint Ritual. He went off on a rant after I brought up Panetera's breakup (bad, bad idea)...LOL...anyhow, when he was done, I basically just wanted to roll up into a ball...I knew I had to switch the subject very quick, so instead we somehow changed the subject to elementary school lunchboxes, I asked him if his had a theme, he said his was "KISS"... haha... the conversation pretty much simmered after that, and he actually apologized.

Yeah, over the years, (and YEARS...) I've met a lot of them. Most were just regular people. If you're an attractive girl; and don't act as though you're crazed; you can usually go back-stage at any concert.
Some were just a little paranoid, but they calm down if you don't attack them... They are dedicated musicians, not as off-the-wall as most "publicity" leads people to believe. If you are there because you admire their music, they are almost too grateful! (If you are there for another reason...well, you get what you pay for...)
Performers are "out-there" to sell what they do! IF you're a fan; they love you.
One or two of the "REALLY BIG DEALS" were beyond full-of-themselves. It didn't change how I felt about their music, it just changed whether or not I thought them attractive as individuals... yeah.
What everyone who wants to meet these people should keep in mind:
You don't REALLY know these people; even though it feels like you do. And they have never seen YOU before in their lives! As these are REAL PEOPLE, be prepared for them to be a little wary; they don't know WHY you're there...

Yes, I've met Corey Taylor as well as the rest of the guys from Stone Sour at a nightclub in Pittston, PA after a show there one night back in 2002. Even though Corey didn't seem like he was at his best (awesome show though), I'm sure he was missing being away from his little boy who was just a baby at the time, he was the nicest guy I have ever met.

I've met several bands in my teen years... back when I used to arrive to the venue 4 hours early.
Taproot, Disturbed, Liquid Gang, and Ultraspank: All at the same show. The Taproot guys were extremely nice, they talked before the show and after the show... very friendly. The singer in Disturbed was rude, just another reason for me to not care for that band at all. The other two groups were cool.
Dino when he was with Fear Factory: He signed my ticket and talked for a bit... nice guy.
Stabbing Westward: Got my ticket signed, but couldn't speak to them due to the hectic mass of fans surrounding the area, who were also wanting autographs.
Snake River Conspiracy: got a picture with Tobey... she was cool.
Linkin Park: Met them a while back before a show.
Good Charlotte: Nice guys... I just don't care for their music.
Lennon (the band, not John Lennon): The drummer threw his drum stick into the crowd and I happened to catch it, so I asked him to sign it later on. He seemed very excited about that.
Other than local bands, that's about it.

I worked with a concert promoter, managed a studio and was a member of NARAS for about 10 years. Met a few people. I was most impressed by Bruce Springsteen going down to the local food bank without anyone knowing who he was, rolling up his sleeves and loading crates of food.

Well, it didn't happen face-to-face but I did get to talk VERY BRIEFLY to Eddie Vedder on the phone once. This was back in '93 after he & Jeff appeared on Rockline and he gave out his home phone number. I tried calling him to see if he would call into the college radio show I was involved in with some friends - we were not allowed to play "Vs." on the air because the station felt it was too "commercial", and I really wanted to know how he felt about the format that helped to make him successful turning their back on him.

I was so shocked that he actually picked up (it had been days of getting a busy signal) that the purpose of my call never came up. I said hi, and that I really appreciated their music. He asked me where I was calling from. That was it. Total call time: 1.5 minutes.

I got to meet Belinda Carlisle one time. She was shopping, and she was STUNNINGLY beautiful - just crazy. And she was so nice, and this was back when she was big with Heaven is a place on earth and all that.

She was buying some funny pajamas and big furry slipper things at a store in LA. My sister and I followed her around for a few minutes before approaching her. She was just so nice and normal.

Still a great memory!
