Either you have the wrong cartridge, or the one you have is not being recognized by your printer. First question is, is it the correct one? Not a black verses a color? Did you remove the plastic tape from the head? From the contacts? Did you read the instructions?
I would try taking the one that does not work, back to the store and tell them it is defective. Clearly, it has issues. Bad contacts etc. If this does not take care of the problem then uninstall the printer and then re-install it. I have to do this every time my Daughter tries to print line drawings. My pinter is HP Desk jet. I have had to replace cartridges due to bad contacts before also. Good luck!

When buying a new cartridge always take the old one along if you are unsure of getting the right one.
That way you can show the cartridge to the salesman and he can select it and if it is wrong take back to same Salesman.
When you take the cartridge out of the box and then remove the paper or plastic bag then peal off the small plastic tape covering the heads.
Now if you don't remember removing the plastic take out the cartridge and check the head that is the part that is Gold plated.
HP is a good printer and I often service them and most don't have much trouble.
After checking replace Cartridge and go to you HP program click on print test, if this doesn't work try clean head test.
If all fails, some times people take the cartridge out of there printer and there is some old ink left behind and it drys and interferes with flow and the censers of the diagnostics
This old ink can be cleaned away thinners with a cotton bud,
But care must be taken and really at this stage you have to know what you are doing.

For starters make sure the cartridge the salesperson recommended is one of the following HP #28 (color), HP#56(black), HP#57(color HC), HP58 (photo) otherwise the printer will not recognize the cartridge and give that error. If the cartridge is the right number then there's the possibility that the cartridge has a faulty chip (copper film looking thing on the cartridge). If you need more cartridge details head over here.

In my journey, Lexmarks do no longer final very long. Canon does particularly nicely utilising Canon ink (that are generally much less costly). A Canon all-in-one printer/scanners are no longer significantly better than a universal printer. HP has stable pictures yet is going by way of ink rapid. Samsung now makes a colour LASER printer for $299, do no longer comprehend how a lot toner is nevertheless.

Are you using HP cartridges or generic? Some printers give you a real headache with generics. Please try HP's support. I had a personal experience with HP a couple of months ago. Received a response in a couple of hours, solved my problem, and received a followup e-mail to be sure the printer was working all right.
Before you e-mail, get our your order number, customer number, serial number of printer, to identify yourself as a valid owner.

This is same like "cartridge not recognized" error. You should change your cartridge and should go for new.
