Most people install an alarm system. Some of them can be installed by you . Radio Shack sells some simple systems. Most others have a professional system installed . Depending how much you want to spend. The simple ones sound off with loud sirens or whales. Others can call the police if they are triggered. Good luck

You cannot set up your home to harm anyone, including the burglar. This is considered a felony in most states and, when you catch the burglar, if he's harmed in any way, you'll be responsible for it, you could be charged up to and including his death.
Minnesota 1972 the case of the farmer always getting broke into while he was gone. Set his door with a shot-gun while he went away. Some town kids came by, of course broke in, one was killed, one badly injured. The farmer, 72 years old, was given a life sentence by the judge.
It would be better to go to a large lock smith, one who handles all kinds of alarms and locks. Get something that will go around the windows and connect to both alarms and cameras. You can get a camera connected alarm from Wal-Mart, electronics department that starts and runs vie laser and records while setting off a siren for under $200.00.
The more noise they make, the better they are.

I think this would have to be the oldest answer in the world setting up a burglar to get cooked. Everyone would love to do this but unfortunately the law will be on the thief's side and not yours. You''ll end up doing time in jail not to mention the law suit he or she would file.
Chances are that the amount you would have to pay out will send you broke. It is not worth it. Call the police or set up a back to base alarm where private security will take care of this. Shop around and you'll be quiet surprised how inexpensive this will be and they usually supply all the install for you. Better this way then having to pay big buck to the thief's if they sue you, which they will.

I would look for some sort of device that would do that. I advise against electrifying it up yo. One thing to do is have very nasty cactus under windows, that is a nice natural anti-theft. Motion lights are good, too.or you could look into those live fences they use for horses. that would be a good start, or at least the person that sells them can help you further.
But i really like the cactus idea.:)

I am at home. From my window I can see the lovely little creek that runs though my back yard. There are several elderly Oak trees in my back yard. The clothes line that I use to let the dog run in the back yard and the dog. That is what I would see if the darn cats were not sitting in front of my view of the outside! I love my kitties, but they always sit right in front of MY view out the window. I would understand if it were not a big (six foot long) window!

You can get into trouble legally for setting 'booby traps' on your house like that. Be careful.
I am sorry to hear you got robbed.
Install an alarm.
Put stickers on the windows that announce your home is protected by an alarm.
Burgalers who see this ...usually go look for an easier target.

If you live in the UK and a burglar is injured by you electrifing your windows you WILL BE TAKEN TO COURT AND fined or go to jail, don't even think of it. An Englishmans home is NOT his castle.
If you live outside the UK the laws might be different.
