Well.. My advice is to get into whatever character you're playing and feel like you are them. Some actors are or were shy in real life and acting helped them be more outgoing, maybe it can help you! Start small though, I don't reccomend throwing yourself into it. Try to relax and get into the character, don't concentrate on the audience or how you look or anythiing like that really! Good luck! Maybe you could try an acting or drama class where you have to perform in front of a class maybe with other people so it's not as intense.

I have few friends who are psychology majors (even to grad level). And they say that most fears can be dealt with in baby steps.
For instance, if you have a fear of spiders, they would show you a picture of a tiny spider. And let you get comfortable enough. Then it gets bigger and bigger till pictures don't scare you. Then it goes from there.

And the same goes for other fears. So start your little performances with small audiences. Maybe even in front of just pictures of people.
But just remember that stage fright is only small part of getting parts and becoming an actor.
Good Luck.

One of the things a famous American playwright said an actor must cave is COURAGE which allows himself to stand on the stage and be vulnerable in front of an audience.. when you do what an actor is supposed to do on stage, you are not afraid unless the character you are portraying is afraid. It is that simple. but that is a long way from where you are. You are going to have to build your confidence, try kung fu or tae kwan do, try speech classes , try toastmastersl But get brave. That is the only way you are going to get over your fear.

I use to be in theatre and I would be so nervous right before I would go on and as soon as I would walk on stage I became that character and the stage fright was gone. POOF...
Just, immerse yourself in your character, whether you are playing Agnes from Agnes of God ( I did a scene in HS drama, I was Agnes) or whether you are playing some goofy character in a Melodrama, just own it.

Just stop worrying about what other people will think. Get up there and just be your chacter think like her and feel like her. Focus on what you are doing not what anyone else is thinking. I hope this helps! Break a Leg!
