I have been considering buying a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, or a Dodge Caravan. I have read that they are built poorly with lots of problems, clear through the 90's till today. The internet reviews are horrendous with people claiming that they are cheap and poorly built, with transmission, and break problems, and shoddy craftsmanship, cheap leather and seating, and malfunctioning doors and electrical systems. Can anyone give me some input on their experiences with these vehicles? I have also heard the gas milage is horrible, and that the Chrysler Corporation does not stand behind its products, and that their dealers do not know how to fix these vehicles when they need it. I love their models of minivans, but are they junk? Are they a mistake to buy? Are other minivans better? Thanks!

There was a time that everybody I knew had one, because of the age of their families. Nobody I know ever had any problems with them, except for the 3.0 liters burning oil, and that wasa easy enough to fix. I certainly found mind to be rock solid.
I think all the negative talk about them is just bunk. They've sold millions of them. You might want to keep your eyes open and see if you ever see one sitting by the side of the road. Compare the number that you see with the numbers of all the other cars you see broken down. I don't think you'll see one broken down anywhere.

Well I can tell you from experience that Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth minivans are very well made and reliable. They are all three made on the same assemble line with the same body. The difference is the compliments put on. Chrysler labels will have finer add on trims and will cost more. I worked for a Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth dealer for 23 years and found that Chrysler puts more quality in what sells best. In their case it was the minivans and pickups. I have owned 2 minivans in the past and am now driving my third. The corporation had a lot of problems with the 42TE transmission when it first came out in around 87 and gave it a bad reputation and had to have a lot of re-tooling. But it has proven to be very reliable when compared with the other original 2 American car makers. Good luck with what ever you choose.

Chrysler/Dodge INVENTED the minivan they are great quality and have all the accomidations you could ever need. Infact I rented one just last month and got it up to 125 MPH with some to spare! All minivans are really the same. I own a 2000 honda oddesy with auto doors and have never had much problem. otherwise it has been a great van for a minivan and gets 23 mpg in the city. I regret buying it though. If I could do it all over again I would definitley buy a DIESEL suburban and put BIODIESEL in it. Biodeisel is cheaper, cleaner, and better for the environment. Suburbans are WAY cooler than a minivan, the miles per gallon would be about the same, they have 8 seats compared to 7 usually, Diesel engines run for more miles than gasoline engines, and you have the option of having a 4x4!. Why drive a minivan if you don't have to?

I think all the people above have answered you're questions. I was working at a Chrysler dealer ship when they first came out. The first ones were very popular. But didn't have a good drive train that would last and be trouble free. However, they were, as I say, very popular and Chrysler puts it's best effort and money in what sells best, so they steadily improved. I personally owned a 1992 Grand caravan With a 3.3 Lt. engine that would NOT wear out or use oil. When I sold it, it had 230,000 miles on it and ran great. I have since owned a 2000 (3.3 Lt)Chrysler van, traded it in at 120,000 miles and am now driving a 05 (3.3Lt)Chrysler Town and Country. As of any vehicle, It depends a lot on how it was taken care of( if you buy a pre-owned ) and how you take care of it. My gas mileage was 23 for the 92, 23 for the 2000, and24.4 for the 05. And that's 70 m.p.h. with air conditioner on on all three vans. The van was very popular at our dealership. We sold truck after truck loads of them. And none of us minded working on them. All other vans are competive. I've heard some good things about them. But I can personaly tell you if you try a Chrysler built one, it may very well spoil you on any thing else. Good luck on what ever you decide on.

all car makers have problems as for the Chrysler mini vans they are pretty good vans if you buy one buy a 98 or up the quality of those is a lot better than the previous years, they did have problems like any other ones did,but over all they run and drive real good, and i haven't had that many problems with them, and i work on vehicles all day long 6 days a week, the ones i see are doing good, just make sure if you find one that you have it checked out real good, there was some of them that did give problems, but for the most part they are as good as anything out there right now, good luck on it.
