Sure, just set it up as a secondary drive in another computer. You will have to change the jumper settings(look at your computer/hard drive manual for this) and then you'll probably need to connect it to the same cable inside an other computer as the other hard drive( the ide cable should have two connectors for hard drives). The other computer should be able to see the contents of the drive and you should be able to copy it over. If it can't access the drive, look at a program like spinrite http://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm

forgot to back up? as several people have said the lack of booting can come from several places software and hardware. first you have to determine whats wrong if you find that its the HD itself you have a big problem because IDE drives when they die die.no fixing then even temporary(the very old drive could be tweaked to run for a short time with tricks, freezing them jolts of power etc but modern HD 's just die.) if your file are important enough to spend money there are dick recovery services(very expensive)that will try to recover your data by disassembling them in a clean room and run the internal disks on anther drive. this is the reason to back up your files regularly

Sure can! Assuming the drive physically works but the boot record is jacked, take it out of your 'puter and put it in another. If SATA, set up the bios. If EIDE, set up drive cables with YOUR drive as slave, then set up bios. DO NOT BACK UP FILES THAT YOU GOT FROM P2P FILESHARING. If your drive is physically hosed, you can take it to firedog, geek squad or data doctors.

You would need to connect the drive to a working computer and then use a forensic drive examination program (such as GetDataBack)

absolutly.
depending on what crashed. if it wont power up that could be a CMMOS problem, and not an HDD problem at all. if it powers up, but cant load windows, than thats a HDD failure.
go find a friend with a tower, hook up your HDD into his 2nd port, and drag and drop what you wanna keep.
hit me up if you got more questions
