Think of it this way...each piece can be split up into more pieces. She at half of one piece so that piece became two pieces. What would happen if you said all of the pieces were two pieces instead then? She ate that one...so what would your fraction be?

'1 pizza' is divided into '8 slices'. She ate 1/2 of 1 slice.

So she ate 1/2 of 1 slice (which is 1/8 of the whole pizza).
Therefore she ate 1/2 of 1/8 which is 1/16 of the whole pizza.

It's pretty hard to show the work with out drawing a diagram.

If she ate 1/2 of one slice then you divide all the slices into 2 and she ate 1 of them.

well... let's break this apart and look at the info we have:

8 pieces (each piece is equal to 1/8 of the pizza)
1/2 of a piece eaten

All we have to do is multiply 1/2 by 1/8

This will give us 1/16

She ate 1/16 of the pizza

Hope this helps

1 piece=1/8 of the pizza
1/2 of 1/8=1/16
Just multiply your numerators (1 times 1=1) and denominators (2 times 8=16)
"Of" always means multiply in "blank OF blank"

well u could do it like this:
think there r 16 pieces instead (8 x 2) and she ate one piece. so there is 15 over 16.
that is the simple answer. the harder one takes time. i am not very good at going farther.

well....if she took one piece...which is 1/8

take that and divide it by two

(1/8) / 2

which is also (1/8) * (1/2)

both give you 1/16
