Why did 9/11 happen what were they trying to prove?

It appears to me that Osama bin Laden was trying to prove that he was the most powerful Jihadist in the world.

Osama bin Laden orchestrated the atack on the World Trade Center primarily to gain status among the Jihadis.

Before September 11, 2001, Osama bin Laden was just your average pipsqueak Jihadist.

By concocting the attack on the World Trade Center he transformed himself overnight into the leader of the Jihadis in the Middle East.

To understand Osama bin Laden, one has to remember that he is a practical man.

Osama bin Laden was faced with the problem of how he can dramatically boost his status in the world of Jihadis.

The one thing that he could do is engineer the attack on the World Trade Center.


And that is what Osama bin Laden did.

As far as I understand, Osama was trying to prove that Islam is strong. He thought that by showing the strength of Islam, he would attract many US citizens to become Muslims. He discussed this in a video of him and several of his friends after 9/11. "Will somebody want to buy a strong horse, or a weak horse? The strong horse, of course!" I think he did not anticipate the reaction of Americans: "I want a horse that didn't kill 3,000 innocent people."

The terrorist wanted to instill fear into the hearts of all Americans. They picked each target very careful. Each represented a part of America that al-Qaeda hates. The Pentagon represented our powerful military, the Twin Towers represented our strong economy, and the White House, which the terrorist failed to hit, was supposed to represent our government. Some Muslims feel that anyone who does not believe in Muhammad is an infidel and should be killed. Many things the U.S. allows goes against there beliefs, so al-Qaeda feels we should all die.

To me, it seems ridiculous to believe that anyone had a chance to get close to the pentagon without being shot down, but again, that's just my opinion. Do your research.
