Please help, if you can.

I've never run into a problem like this before and everyone I've talked to has no clue what the heck is going on. Whenever I try to watch ANY video media on my computer OTHER THAN flash, (like what is found on sites like youtube.com), my computer slows down to a snail's pace, the screen turns completely black for a slow second, flashes back to "normal" and everything remains painfully slow until the computer basically needs to be emergency rebooted.

This means that I cannot watch dvds, windows media files, anything at all, (other than the stuff on youtube, of course, and other flash format videos), or edit home-made video clips, of course, without a repeat of what I've mentioned.

I should mention, also, that we just had a new hard-drive installed and we hoped that the old system had something to do with what was was happening. No such luck. We had the same problem with viewing videos/dvds before the new hard drive AND now, after.

Thank you!
