My friend's refrigerator. He was in Afghanistan and I went over to check on his house. Well, the electric was turned off which is was not suppose to be. There were fly and maggots in the fridge, and he had some fish and some pork that was frozen. Well when I got there I could smell it from just inside the door. I went to the fridge and opened up the freezer, big mistake!! I just about threw up! I had to go outside and get fresh air. Now I worked in surgery for 6 years, I have smelled some very, very bad things. This was however the worst that I have ever smelled. I mean I can't even begin to describe the odor. I cleaned out the fridge for him, but I had to go outside 3 times to keep from throwing up, it was that bad.

Oh, when we were house hunting a couple months ago - this one house had this horrible odor in it - like rotting meat but something else as well. The whole house was empty, but right in front of the fridgr their was this small dark pool of something that leaked out of the fridge.
It was so bad, you had to go outside and take a deep breath, go in holding your breath and your nose just to see the place. We were running in and out - we spent less than 5 minutes at that house. AWFUL!
Second worst is old pet stains in carpet - it goes through the whole house. We just tore the carpet out of the whole house we did buy, because her cats and dogs peed in a lot of different places throughout the house. Nasty - and carpet cleaning does not get that out.
Third worst - raccoon poop the dog has rolled in - and then the dog wants to come in the house.

The odor from cauterizing bleeders during surgery. It sorta smells like BBQ (because it literally is cooking meat), but it grosses you out because you know it is human flesh. You get used to it after you've worked in the OR for a while, though.
OR
The smell when you open the abdomen of a person who has been dead for a while. (during an autopsy) It goes "pssssht" when you puncture it and this horrid odor comes out.

Worst thing I ever smelled was in a house I bought for a rental. There was a large housecat that had crawled into the insulation and died. It was deep summer and it took days for us to find it. When I finally saw the bulge in the insulation and cut through it... it came crashing down and hit like a brown slimey bag of mud. I just kept vomiting over and over and couldn't hardly get a breath.. yet I had to clean it up.. It was a horror show.

Eh...I'm a mom, and usually smells of any kind don't bother me. However, last night I went out for the first time in a year and had a few drinks. This morning, hungover...I woke up to my son's poopy diaper. I have to say...that was the worst smell I've smelled in a long time. I smell it everyday but today...I couldn't handle it.

A skunk sprayed right under my open window this summer. It woke me up straight away and smelled like someone was burning tires! My eyes burned and I could hardly breath! In the morning, I found the skunk laying on the ground near my dog who had obviously had it with this skunk who made a habit of visiting our home. He'd shaken it so hard it broke it's back!

Well there is this little public men's room in the train station (S-Bahn) in
Hoechst, Germany. (a small town near Frankfurt a.M.)
They must not have cleaned it in many months. (if not years)
(I don't know why, I don't care to know)
It had such unearthly, enormously, large brown and yellow fungi growing everywhere in it. (not just in the urinals)
It smelled so bad I remember it to this day. (17 years later) I've been in some very smelly places (unfortunately) around the world, but this one takes the gold.

My job requires me to go into peoples basements quite often. On more than one occasion I have wanted to toss cookies. There was this on place in particular though... between the smell of the dead mice, mold, stale air, garbage, and fecies from a dozen cats living in cages wanted me to hurl right there

I spent 12+ years in EMS. You really want me to answer this....?
There is only one odor which has ever made me gag. Feces. And the nurses all knew it..so when at our base hospital..they would ALWAYS ask me to help clean a patient. They knew I could not, would not say no...and they got some really good belly laughs out of watching my face. However...rest assured....revenge was always sweet. ;)

I think bad body odor is the very worst. Get in an elevator with someone that stinks and you will see.
