Holding the Alt key while pressing the PrtScn key will take a shot of whatever window is open at the time. It does not take a shot of the entire screen, so no desktop icons or background will show. Pressing the PrtScn key alone takes a shot of your entire desktop.

If you have multiple windows on your desktop make sure the one you want to capture is on top. Bring up PAINT, and click on Edit, then Paste, then Save if you want to keep the screenshot.

You could use a free porgram to take screen shots for you. here is a list of some that are free, just scroll dorn the page a little and you will see them.

You can try Alt+PrnScr. This may capture a picture of the open window, or not. It will go to the clipboard. Just go to a document and paste.
