Acting is something I've always dreamed of doing and I plan on going to college to major in either Drama or theatre arts but one question thats constantly been going through my head is rather or not if I can make it. I am confident in myself but theres like 1000's of other people in LA with the same goal so if I moved to LA and worked hard for the next 5 to 7yrs, would I have a good chance of making it big and landing major roles?

It depends on you, your talent, and your total package. Everybody's story is different. Just make sure that you get use to hearing the word "No". Everyone in the business will hear that word. You will not be able to avoid it. The only thing that you can do is actually just go and give it a try. That's the ONLY way that you will know.

I wish you all the luck!

PS: You DO NOT have to be a model or "gorgeous" , because there are plenty of "ugly" actors and actresses (Not saying that you are ugly) in Hollywood who are making big bucks. All roles aren't made for the beautiful people. So NEVER let advice from people like "Theatre Doc" discourage you from going after your dream. Maybe it's for you, maybe it's not, but you will never know unless you give it a try. You owe it to yourself. And remember: Opinions are like a$$holes, everybody has one. ;)

Maybe, but you also might win the Powerball lotto. If you are determined and if you have ability and if you have knowhow and a mentor, you might at least break into the business. I am glad to see you are not in a hurry to do so, most want fame tomorrow. To be honest with you to make it big and land major roles you need to be as gorgeious as DiCaprio or Pitt. and very talented as well. So. do you think you can compete? I mentor aspiring actors for free, click on my name, read my profile and write to me at my aol address if you want more help

Less than 2% of the more than 100,000 members of the Screen Actors Guild actually make a living by acting, so the answer would be no.
