This is for selling t-shirts or hats with this phrase with a team nickname. I understand "Indians" is trademarked but is using just a team nickname with the team colors okay?

Sure, it's legal - but you *do* have to pay licensing fees.

Hi, any merchandising or duplication of a team's names, along with their signature colors and trademarked slogans, is a violation of copyright - UNLESS you get permission, or licensing agreements from them. This is very expensive to do and believe that you will give them a part of your profits. But if you have a product that you know will sell very well, it may be worth it for yourself. Contact the team's management department and find out the particulars of applying for licensing. Good luck!

Nope, you'll get a visit from a lawyer or a very nasty letter with legal backup behind it.

The teams are all trademarked and profits go to the business they themselves are part of. It's illegal to sell anything along those lines unless you license it from them, which is fairly expensive.

The teams have also copywritten the variations of their names. So Tribe would be out for the Indians, same goes for Pats for the Patriots, Knickerboxers for the Knicks, Phils for the Phillies, etc.
