Ok first of all I am 18. I've had my period for about 4 to 5 years now can't really remember. My period is very irregular its never on time its always early or late, its very hard to pridict when its coming. Also I have very painfull cramps. I have tried advil and all that for some reason it just don't work for me. I have taken persciption IB Profen (SP?) and also Vicoden. Those seem to be the only two things that can make the pain of the cramps go away. I have heard that taking the pill can reduce cramp pain. Of course it also regulates my period. I was talking to my mom and she said we could check in on gettin me on the pill to help, do you guyz think itsa good idea or is there anything else that I can do to help eaither or of them.

Thanx =)

Ok I see that one person said no. I know that it has side effect but since the pain of my cramps are really bad I mean when I have some cramps all I can do is lay down I can't even sit. Also my period are heavy and it would be nice for hem not to be usually they last about 4 to 6 days sometimes 7. Also with me being sexualy active its just another precaution for preventin pregnacy. Don't worry I'm not a stupid one I will still use condoms even if I do get on it. Yes I am planning on a doc visit soon once I can call in and get one.

I would say it is an excellent idea. Better yet, you might consider going on the kind of pill that lets you have only four periods a year; Seasonale is the brand with which I'm familiar, although it can be done with regular pills as well. You take 12 weeks of "active" pills, and then go off them for one week. I did this because of migraines that occurred just before my cycle started, but severe cramps that are bad enough for vicodin would certainly qualify. Talk with your doctor about this sort of regimen.

Good luck!

I think it's a great idea. Alot of women go on the pill for that reason alone. I went on a low harmone birth control pill about 6 months ago, and absolutely love it. I know exactly when my period is coming, and it has made them much milder. I used to have heavy, long periods, sometimes lasting 8 or 9 days. Now it's not heavy at all, and only lasts about 3 days. I have less pain too. I think you should try it. If you don't like it after trying it for a few months, you could always stop. It's worth the try.
Good luck!

I know exactly how you feel! I got mine at 11 years old, and within a year I was in so much pain I couldn't go to school on those days, I was throwing up, and I had to go to th ER. It can get bad. It was also really heavy and irregular. I tried different meds and also natural stuff. Didn't work. I started the pill and it was like a miracle. I've used it ever since. Obviously, see your doctor. But I totally reccomend it. I wish I had done that in the first place instead of trying the other stuff and being in pain for like another year! good luck!

i started the pill (and i'm 16) because of cramps. they were so horrible, i'd take 2 pamprins and they would only make me soo tired. and i couldn't fall asleep because of the pain, and the feeling was just horrible. i wanted to sleep, but i couldn't through all the pain. so i would take some ibuprofin too, and that wouldn't help a whole lot. i'd eventually fall asleep after about an hour of miserable pain, just about in tears from pain. since i started the pill, i haven't had a single problem with cramps. it's so wonderfull...the only downfall is side effects, but even those are totally worth it when you're getting rid of the horrible pains. i'd deffinately get on the pill.

p.s. i don't think froggy knows how it feels, seriously...

Just make sure you go on a brand that suits you.
Some scripts can make you very moody.
My partner takes Trioden ED.It works well,she's always on time and has less pain in her tummy and breasts.She doesn't get moody either which is a bonus for me.Ask your GP about Trioden ED.

Yes, it would be good for you to go on the pill to regulate your periods.
That's why I take them.

You should know, however, that the pill does NOT help with cramps. You'll still need to take separate meds for that.
