I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I have been having contractions for the past few days and with every step it feel like the baby is dropping. Well I started spotting tonight and got checked and the doctor said I was definatly contracting and my cervix was changing. I am 1 centimeter but he said my cervix is pretty soft...about 25% effaced. Could labor be soon?

It might not happen today or tomorrow but I would expect your contractions to continue and gradually strenghten and become regular and painful.
1cm and 25% is a positive sign though so start taking it easy, pack your bags and get some rest. Try to go for a few gently walks to help these contractions move along and if doctor has said its still okay, then try sex as this really does work.
Best of luck and imagine you will have a new baby in your arms within a few days.

~best of luck~

Don't count on it. With my first I was 1 cm for over a month, and with my second 3 cm for a month - they were both overdue.
Don't assume anything until you
1] break your water
2] have regular contractions, lasting at least 60 seconds, with 5 minutes or less form start of one to start of next. [ that actually hurt! ]
3] you start bleeding like a period.
4] baby doesn't move for over half an hour

I think that when you start getting constant and more painful contractions thats when you should worry. I think you are ok.
