To have a better future without firearms, would require a radical change in the make-up of mankind. As long as there is the capacity for mankind to be evil, there is always going to be a need for people to be able to protect themselves from the evil ones. Besides, in the U S of A the people having guns is the only thing keeping our present government halfways honest. Once we lose our rights to own a gun, that will be the day ,when the American people become fulfledged slaves to the government.

No. The problem isn't legal registered guns. The problem is guns bought out of some guy's trunk in a big-city alley. Another problem is parents who don't take the time to teach their children, letting kids think it's like tv, where the victim is ok because they see him on another show. If you take away legal guns, then the bad guys run the country because they've got the only weapons.

Probably not in USA. Many are still owned for feeding families and protection from harmful outdoor beasts at least where we live, the more country(less populated) the more likely to feel this way.
As for population areas, Fla. lawmakers(and others) held their breath for a year after passing concealed gun laws waiting to see how bad the crime wave might be. Surprisingly, crime went down. Maybe if criminals can't tell when they'll be faced down, they are less likely to accost.
None the less, there are countries where none are permitted.
See how they are doing.

Not for the anti gun people. For them it is NOT about the welfare or safety of people, it is for control [power] via tyranny.
