Would i just have to buy an extremely long cord, or is there come kind of connecter that i can use to connect 2 cables together?

there are several methods first I would check to see how you house is wired. you could use the existing telephones wire in the house if it is CAT 3 or higher. you can also run a segment of Ethernet from one location or the other, and lastly you can go wireless which would be the last resort if optimum performance is your goal.

Get an RJ 45 cables and a LAN card to your computer (some computer has a built-in LAN card) if there is, no built in try to buy one with a high speed specs, and then you connect them by a straight-through LAN cable to the router.

you need one long Ethernet cable these can be made with RJ45 ends and cat 5 E cable you need a crimper to put these ends on but you could measure the length of the distance from router to computer and order ready made cable

they do make a connector for your problem. the connection type is an RJ45, so just go down to radio shack or your local computer store to buy one or two of these. btw you want them to have the female ends, since you are trying to connect two cords together

not worth it
Get a wireless router ( often on sale at big box stores) and a wireless network adapter
You can get connectors to connect the two cords but in most cased it is not worth it
