they do have an impact to some extent yet most colleges usually look at grades earned,GPA's, SAT scores, the overall picture..then they letters might have a small influence but not really..they are like the frosting of a cake in a sense..the cake is the foundation, grades,SAT scores, the frosting are the letters of reccommendation as well as parents being alumni..get the pic?letters play a small role yet it is the overall package per say that colleges look for..they want a certain GPA, no less than that, certain criteria as well as maybe volunteering to show the good rolemodel that you are..if a really important chancellor would write one that might be good news but do not depend on that alone..do not count your blessings yet until you apply to where you want to go to and send this letter as well and then see what happens..different universities take different approaches..some give it more credit and others look at it less..it is up to the school..it is a nice thing but it does not guarantee you success!

look at your GPA, apply to as many colleges that fit the criteria of your GPA..they might not be what you wanted but you can always tranfer to where you want to if you get your GPA up..there are so many universities out there..do not be disappointed if you do not into the one that you have chosen or had your hopes on..i wish you the best of luck!

Some schools pay a lot of attention to letters of recommendation, while others pay very little. Certainly if the school pays attention to the letters, one from the chancellor of a college would be respected, provided the chancellor knows you well. You do better to have letters from moderately successful people, like teachers, who really know your work than to have letters from big names who don't have much to say about you.

It can only help, but its only gonna be icing on the cake. Number one thing that will impact college acceptance is your grades you had in highschool. Number two is going to be your placement test scores. And number three is going to be your admission application and your admissions essay.

As you know you need the cake before the icing. Good luck to you in your search for the right college. Just remember to have backup plans in place just incase your first choice doesn't pan out. Also don't get discouraged, there are plenty of great colleges out there, and I am sure you will find the right one.
