hmmm I would have to disagree a little. Sure extreme overclocking could shorting the life span of your cpu...but how long is the life span. I have overclocked my athlon 1700 (1.4GHz) to 1.8 - 2.0GHz and I've been running it for....5...6 years and I see a difference in performance. The x2 4000 is a good overclocker, it's $65...cheap enough that if you have to replace it in 3 or 4 years...then you can. Most of the time all of these chips come off the same assembly line and packaged into different speeds. The chip for the 4000 is probably the same chip as the 4400 or higher. That is why you can overclock it so well and not have any negative results overtime. Here's what I would recommend...don't overclock it at first and see if you have any problems...does everything run great and fast...then don't change anything...if it's lagging..then you can overclock (the 4000 should go all the way to the 3GHz range).

I know this isn't a how to but it's my .02 on overclocking in general.

I have the AMD 4400+ 64 X2 Toledo Processor. Why do you want to over clock this? Its not necessary, you are going to radically shorten the life of the processor due to heat issues, and the stock heat-sink that AMD gives you is not a cheap Heat-Sink either!

If you are having speed issues the change your motherboard, RAM and Video Card.

My System:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo, (Socket 939)
Asus A8V-E SE Motherboard
PNY nVidia 8800 GTS PCI Express-16 Video Card
4Gb G-Skill PC-3200 RAM
Sound Blaster XF-I Gamer Series Sound Card
Asus Ageia Phys-X Accelerator Card
Thermaltake Tough Power 650 Watt PSU
Hitachi Deskstar 150 Gb/300Gb Hdd (U-ATA 133)
Cooler Master CAC-5 Centurion Case
19" CRT Sun Microsystems Grapics Rendering Monitor
Saitek Eclipse Keyboard
Saitek Cyborg EVO Joystick

If cost is an issue then maybe nobody has told you about this place!

I build my whole system from their inventory, not to mention 18 other gaming machines for friends and family.

I am currently running FEAR, Half Life 2, Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 2, Stalker, Far Cry, Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 all at their maximum graphics capabilities and there is no chop or hesitation in the system.

Just take your time and build the system right, don't take shortcuts like overclocking your parts. It just costs you bigger dollars in the long run.

Over clocking shorten the life of a computer, don't try to be serious about this, and don't listen to other that overclocking make your computer more faster, yes in some other way like games, but in the future it has a big tendency to crash, because you put your computer to it's working limit. Overclocking use for some testing purpose only, if you want to make your computer more faster try to add more memory and upgrade some of your harware like video card. We always care when our computer has some problem and we are user was the only one who . responsible for that I hope it helps!
