...lose. I cannot even remember how many times I've seen it spelled "loose". The main reason I have asked this question is because misery loves company. Now that I have pointed it out, if you haven't already noticed, you will now.

Timberwolf: it doesn't bother me "SO" much. Just enough to spend 22 seconds of my time to type it up, and 2 minutes to read responses and get a feel for how other people in the world think.

paplo: I was drinking when I asked the question (wasn't that obvious).

I think you need a hobby. Why does it bother you so much? Take anger management classes. It just doesn't matter to me. I'm sure it also bothers you when people write "kinda" and don't capitalize the first letter of sentences. Also, when someone doesn't put a comma after the word "you" in a sentence that starts, "When your writing is all that represents you it is a sad state.......", as in the writing of some people below me.

I'm only glad that Opinion-Checker has not yet been accepted for general use. ("Hmmmm... It looks like some of your ideas are not appropriate.") But, come to think of it, the Orwellian censors at Yahoo are already getting close to that, with their computer program that substitutes asterisks for any word they suspect of being subversive in some way. The other day, I saw a ;posting on here that mentioned the traditional latin tern for the highest academic honor that a college graduate can receive. "Summa C-u-m Laude." But Yahoo covered up the middle word, evidently because the computer thought it might have something to do with sex, which is a forbidden subject on this nice, wholesome website. One more thing: I just now used Yahoo's Spell Checker on this text, and it objected to "Hmmmm," even though "Hmmm" is a word that THE SPELL CHECKER USES ITSELF!

One would surmise that with all the communication with words nowadays ( internet, text, IM, etc ) that people would take greater care in their writing skills. It would seem not so. When your writing is all that represents you it is a sad state of affairs, indeed, to say that you don't care. I would have to guess that you comb your hair in the morning and throw on a little Right Guard so as not to be deemed an outcast. Inattention to the the detail of one's communication skills in this particular setting is like not combing your hair. You appear less than stellar.

Drives me nuts, too. Actually, I would argue that people aren't spelling it wrong, but using the wrong spelling. "Loose" is a proper word; it's an antonym for "tight."

But the big question is, when did people start spelling "definitely" with an "a."

OMG, ujd272, what a splendid piece of writing - except you have an extra 'that' before the word 'people'.

I'm with you. How hard is it to proofread your material? One other person said people don't care and it is true. I find it hard to believe people didn't learn these words in school.
