If I had not seen the detail I would have assumed you were talking about the plural of Pepsi, as in "I drank several Pepsi's to go with those vinegar and salt potato chips." See this website with the title of "Students buying pepsis with debit cards." http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-4042399.html

Pepula means " royal cloak " in Latin. Perhaps their magnificent wing color is the genus name.
