The black usually appears when the fish has been exposed to an irritant or has been handled roughly (think of this as similar to bruising). Assuming you haven't been abusing your fish, Does it have any tankmates which have been chasing it that may have caused it to bump into other objects in the tank? Do you know what the ammonia and nitrite levels in the tank are currently (both are toxic in fairly small amounts, and are a product of your fish's wastes)? The black can occur as a result of exposure to these, or the presence of other chemicals in too high of a concentration. If in doubt, a partial water change (25-50%) wouldn't hurt. You can get your water tested by taking a sample to any pet store if you aren't able to test these yourself.

As a last thought, you might want to check its body for the presence of parasites (small white dots the size of sugar grains, a fine powdery coating, dull appearance in general, or seeing an actual parasite attached to your fish) - especially if you've seen the fish rubbing against objects in the tank, or against the gravel. The parasites may have caused the skin damage directly, or the fish may have injured itself trying to rub them off. See link: http://www.klsnet.com/files/fishchart.htm

WOW "i know their a little crowded" ... Do you know anything about fish at all... For regular smaller fish the rule is one inch of fish per gallon so for you it would be 6-12 gallons but you bought goldfish. Gold fish need 20 Gallons for the first goldfish and 10 More for each additional goldfish. So your tank should be a 70 + Gallon tank. Oh and about your fish, they are all going to die.
