I've been trying to learn how to read and compose music and found several tutorials on the basics of reading music, but still have a lot of questions. The main ones I'll ask for now are:

1) Is there a more detailed tutorial/PDF online that explains EVERY symbol, marking, notation, and thier proper uses?

2) What do the thin double-bars denote?

I know a single thin line marks/divides measures, a thick-&-thin pair marks the begining & end of the piece, and a thick-&-thin pair with dots mark a repeated section, but have no clue what the thin double bars mean and none of the basic tutorials I've read explain it.

Well, here's some help (I hope). I suggest exploring the first site, it has a lot of information on scales, notes, beats, rests, etc. Check under "tutorials" and "reading music" as a start.

2nd site: More reading, less interactive I think.

3rd site explains the Bar Lines.

"The double line is usually used when a major change occurs in the music, such as a key change or metre change. Often, double lines are used to divide one complete musical idea from another. This enables performers to easily recognize the beginning or end of a major musical section."

Good luck!
