There's a new trend now it seems: new generation of asian americans especially teenagers and young adults who hate their own race and people of same skin color. some would say that racial discrimination against own race is not racism. But I strongly believe it is racism. In order to deal or interact with them, I think it's better to understand where they are coming from. I have speculations of my own as to why some (or even an increasing number of) asians hate asians. ex. these asians have been institutionalized to see from the white's or the dominant culture's point of view. ie. they see themselves through white eyes, influenced by white (even subconsciously) racist peers or the environment. So in time, they too become racists and hate their own race. Or they've been made fun of racially for too long that they want to feel what's it like on the other end of discrimination. Maybe due to their insecurities.
Should I ignore or lecture them. But I don't want to sound didactic like I'm now

I feel like this trend has to stop but how does one be able to reach these people and make them understand their wrongful actions.

Hate is bread by ignorance. Do not preach. Expose them to the culture. Help them to know their identity. Show them, don't tell them. Cook with the young. Share stories. Enjoy them. They are inexperienced and uneducated; not stupid. They can learn. Make it pleasant and fun. No one learns well from negativity or a guilt trip.

Take care.
I hope this helps you.

I notice that trend too, there seemed to be a hatred for their own skin color, my younger brother once told us that he would never go out with asian girls, because asian girls are black. This came from the lips of an 10 years old asian boy. When I was in high school as I recalled, there were abcs in my class- American Born Chinese, they didn't want to be associated with anything asian, they didn't want to talk with their own kind and don't want to participate in any celebrations like Chinese New Years. They were very ashamed by their own race and culture. They all married white eventually, but I really felt ashamed for those folks that have lost their identities and inheretance

Well unfortunately this "trend" is still on. Its 2014 and i myself do not like being asian american because some ignorant white girls think im trying to be "white" if i go to hollister, aeropostale, old navy, etc and use the same makeup as them. When asians hate themselves im pretty sure a majority of them have a good explanation.

The only person I see call everyone "cracka" is the avatar Pinky, and I think she is a troll. Everyday I see she has a new account. I don't agree with calling anybody racist names. The hate against them is only coming from black people??

It's not that they hate their race, it's that other people hate and make fun of their race and it is really hard to love yourself when nobody else does

Actually its really funny that you ask this question. My friend is asian, and she seems to hate her own race. But she only hates them because they do try to act caucasian. She's friends with some asians, but when she sees asians with dyed-blonde hair, then she becomes enraged with the fact that they are not being true to their race.

Lecturing them will not help.

The same principle as Jew hates another Jew. You really can't do anything about it. My opinion.

You can express your opinion to that person if you want but don't bother to change his mentality. It will not work.

this isn't a new trend or whatever...it's been going on for years and years, probably before I was even alive.
