WHY DO YOU THINK THEY KEEP RAISING PRICES AND KEEP ASKING CONGRESS FOR MORE MONEY TO COVER
THEIR LOSSES ?
- sure - internet almost killed them - nobody sends any documents by mail any more - just e-mail them for free - much faster - done in a second - and more reliable (you get confirmation - message sent) - you can pay bills online - no stamps needed - voice over internet is fastest growing means of communication but that does not hurt USPS but phone companies -
- not only did internet hurt them - fedex and ups did even more -
both of them give big companies special discount so they use them exclusively for any type of mail/cargo transportation - much faster, much more reliable and with the same or equal cost -
- if they were private company they would be out of business already - congress keeps giving them money (covering losses) so they can stay in business

Somethings wrong with the post office. I mailed a lab coat in a plastic 9" x 12" envelope on Thrusday, the day before Labor Day, from California to Colorado. It's been a week and a half and my son still hasn't received it!

Is the USPS trying to tell me something?

My husband does everything over the internet. I still use stamps.

I read alot of the other users answers, and must say that I agree with them but we have look at this catch 22.
The Post Office raises their rates to compensate for the loss of letters, or for an increase in economy etc... but what they are doing is deterring customers more by the increase. If they examined the raising of postage is causing more and more people to send emails etc.. they should lower their rates more. As it was said the important mail (letters, and bill payments) can be made on line.

No....I'd say they are making a killing.
Credit companies still mail out their bills, plus all of the solicitations they mail is incredible. My husband and I must get 5 or 6 per week.
In addition, because of the war the post office should be booming. I have sent out well over 20 packages to my husband this year who is deployed overseas....that's at a cost of at least $8.60 per package...sometimes more depending on the weight....multiply that by the number of people sending packages....it's a pretty penny.

I pay all bills online. Also for bigger packages I ship through ups or fed ex packages over a pound or more. If you use usps make sure you put insurance on all packages. If they get lose you will get NOTHING but excuses. I told them not to leave packages at my apt door they still do and won't STOP. They don't live up to what they do or say. Also if you ship online make sure you get all packages scan in at the post office & get a receipt for it EVEN A LETTER NEVER BUY
ANOTHER STAMP EVER. http://classlawsuit.org./index.php

Quite the contrary. Due to the increase of people buying products on-line, primarily thru EBay, the US Postal Service has picked up quite alot of higher paying pieces of mail.

Yes, very much so. I used to mail all of my bills every month but now pay them online. I haven't sent a letter to anyone in at lease ten years and my resumes are all send online.

Most people who use email were not letter writers in the first place. Letter writers continue to write letters.
I don't know what's happened to the post in the UK, I was there for summer, postal prices to send overseas are so expensive! I would need to take out a loan to spend presents to my friends
