the theoretical scientists are just backfilling, developing the theories to explain the activities of & results obtained by the former group? Do we need the theoreticians of science? And if we do or don't, can you explain( giving the reasons) why we do or don't. Please.

side note: This is a Q in the *philosophy of science but it is posted in the *physics category which is most fundamental and comprehensive of all the sciences where more smart and knowledgeable people can be found to answer the Q.

Physicists come into two kinds: Theoretical and Experimental. They both need each other. What would a theorist do if no experiments were done to verify his/her theories? What would the experimenter do if there weren't theories to test, or theories to explain new and bizarre results?

Neither is more important, and they mutually require each other.

Theory and experiment are Yin and Yang. One would be completely pointless without the other. The goal of physics is to come up with predictive theories of the physical world. They are validated by experiment. experimentalists design and operate and technicians build the required apparatus.
