I'm fifteen years old, and I want to publish a poetry book, from poems I have written throughout my life. I am passionate about all my poetry and I feel I should wait until I have 100 poems to look to get it published. Does that sound like too many? My poems rage in size from five lines (very few are that short) to three pages (only one is three pages). What's a good amount of poems to have until I look to get it published?

I'm sharing my voice with the world and there lucky for that, I don't need to know every poem ever written to share my passion, I don't have to know what it's real name is and how many stanza's it is. It's me on paper, it's an experience to share. Be greatful.

girl I've seen poetry books from 25 pages to hundred pages with 5 poems or 175 poems. If I were you my main concern would be getting it published. Remember its quality not quantity. What might also happen is that someone might be willing to publish some of your bests works in a book with poetry from all different poets you know like the books used in literature class. Even if you had one poem to publish if a publisher loved it and thought it was great that may be enough so don't limit yourself. I think its great that you're 15 and looking to publish some of your works. I'm a teen as well and I'm working on a fantasy book that I eventually want to have published. So good luck with everything!

How do you write your Poems , how many stanza's each, do you write in Merterical composition? Do you know about Haiku? In order to write a book of Poetry, you must first know about Poetry, how to write it, you must know about every Poet that ever existed, Faulkner, Dorothy Parker, Shakespeare, Milton, Emily Dickinson, Lord Byron, Sara Teasdale, etc etc. Yes you can write Poetry but a promising editor or publication company will ask you what kind of experiences you have had with poetry, and if you know about the core of Poetry, the history of it, you must learn all the terms inside and out, you can't just say, "I'm going to write a book of Poetry," if the world where that simple than we would all be millionaire's, the world is tough and rough, rarely do dreams come true, research Poetry for many years, reading every poet ever written, than reach into the deepest deapths of your soul and write about the sorrowful, the dysfunctional, the pains of life, whatever your soul can muster from your core, read Dorothy Parker and Sylvia Plath and Emily Dickinson and you will understand you must reach SELF ACTUALIZATION before your dreams can come true. 99% of all Poets never became recognized until after their death, that's the way the world works, stop dreaming and READ READ READ to increase your knowledge.

I don't think you should have a set quantity goal: you should attempt to publish when you have created enough poems to show the reader your voice and inspire, entertain, or whatever your poems do. I think you will know when you have enough poems for a book.

I think it's a perfectly fine quantity, but if you've got some REALLY lenthy ones, maybe you should shoot for 80 or so, just so that the book that they're published in isn't a multi-pound beast lol.

Usually, the industry standard is 40 poems per book.

Hmm. One hundred ... you might not need QUITE that many if they're so long. *Yes, I know only one is 3 pages, but still.* Sounds like a good amount, though ... make it a nice, benchmark number. 50. 75. That type of thing.
