There is that possibility. Laptops are not made to be run all the time like desktops. To be on the safe side I would turn it off when not in use.

Mine's on and working for best part of the day (Samsung Laptop). I've had no problems, never even thought about it until you've just said!!!
My hubby's is hooked into his work's main frame (again a lap top) for all his working day. And he carts it back and forth and uses it at home aswell.
Just make sure that it's on a hard surface with plenty of ventilation around the fan area. It should be OK.

That depends on a lot of things. Is your fan running at full speed? Is there anything blocking the ventillation on the computer?
Make sure you check the computer for hot spots. You can buy a pad that has fans on it that will help your computer stay cool if you need to leave it on for long periods of time.

Hello,
I have a toshiba 17" laptop. I leave it on all the time. Todays laptops have a built in feature that will automatically shut down the computer if it becomes too hot. Mine use to overheat quite often till I took it to a computer store to see what the problem was. He took it apart and cleaned the fan and it has not overheated (shut down) since then.

Not necessarily. The overheating that accompanies a laptop being on is usually a result of poor ventilation. To counter this, make sure the fan is clear of obstructions and investing in a motor cooling plate is a good 20-50 dollar investment.

it could...
keep it clean, inside and out, with dust remover (canned CO2)
set the power settings to make it go into sleep mode or hibernation after non use of 10 min.
The only fire hazard is certain batteries...there was a recall for those, check with your laptop mfr.
The mobo has sensors that should shut it down before severe damage, but over time..heat kills components.

I run an online business and I need to keep my laptop on 24/7. If you don't block the ventilation it should be fine.

My wife leaves her HP laptop on 24 hours a day. It's doing fine. Your mileage may vary.
