The only way that you can charge the battery for your laptop is with a compatible charger because the charger converts AC (alternating current) that get delivered to you house and appliances like toasters and hair driers use. to DC (direct current) which electronics use. You can obtain a new charger from the manufacturer of you laptop eg. Dell, Gateway, Lenovo (IBM), HP or Apple to name a few. The price is usually around $20-$40 for a new one. You can also search Google for power supplies for your model laptop.

You can't. You need a charger which exactly matches the required voltage and current rating of your laptop, and also with the exact plug.

If you've lost your adapter, you'll have to order a new one. The charger can't be replaced with just any adapter safely. You might severely damage your computer.
